What I read for review: I review middle grade and young adult fiction and nonfiction. I also review picture books (mostly nonfiction) if I think they have potential to be used with an older audience.

What I review: I review only books that I would recommend to teachers, librarians, and young people. That doesn’t mean that I like every book I review, but it does mean that I think every book I review has merit. In each review I try to present the book’s strengths as well as the types of readers I’d recommend it to. I also note when I feel strongly that the book would not be a good choice for certain readers.

If I would not recommend a book, I simply don’t review it. Writing books is hard work and reading is subjective. I think my time is best spent connecting the books I enjoy with readers who will love them.
